And my my, we’ve made a lot of love (well, you know what we mean!)
So, after four years of extensive touring, recording and meeting some amazing people (you know who you are!), we’re going to wind The Threetles down this year. We’ve had an absolute blast from starting out in early 2019 squeezed into The Golden Slipper on Goodramgate in York (still sitting down in those days!), to being booked for countless festivals and shows, including, of course, getting to play at The Cavern Club as part of Liverpool’s International Beatlesweek in 2021 and the wonderful Beatlenight in France during March 2022. We never dreamed it would ever be as successful as it has been – we only formed it as a threepiece, with no drums so that we could fit easiy into York’s tiny pubs. It’s a real testament to the Fab Four’s great songwriting that we’ve had as much joy as we have done. Altogether, we’ve clocked up nearly 200 live performances since we’ve been together, and the memories that we will each take away from these shows and experiences will stay with us forever, as well as the things we’ve learnt along the way (and, no just just the words and chords!) From long car and train journeys, lugging equipment around Liverpool (and London Hard Rock Cafes for that matter) and sharing hotel rooms (and yes, even beds – we certainly were a threesome that night!!), we really have packed a lot into the last two years, especially considering that three lockdowns were in the middle of it all! Well, three is the magic number after all!
And of course, what has evolved from The Threetles is something even more special (to us anyway), and that is our originals project, One Iota, which began during the first lockdown when we decided to write songs of our own, given that we couldn’t get out to play live at that point. We really surprised ourselves with the outpouring of music, and even got to visit the legendary Abbey Road recording studios to make the album (thanks to the kind support of so many of you by preordering our album – More Than You Take).
We are actually currently writing the next album for One Iota (Shadows In The Shade) and this is one of the reasons why we’ve decided to wind down The Threetles, so that we can really develop our originals project. If you’re interested in following our progress with this and helping us out by ordering a copy, then do join our One Iota newsletter to be the first to know what we’re up to. We’d love to carry on the journey with you.
But all things must pass (ahem..) and now that James Brown has successfully begun his career as a cruise ship musician, and is seeing the four corners of the world (although mainly the Caribbean!), we thought it was time to bring this chapter to a close. We can’t thank James Gibbs enough for stepping in and taking on the John Lennon role, and there are still a few shows left before we hang up the Hofner for good, but after March of this year, there will be no more public performances of The Threetles (peace and love, peace and love, no more autographs etc etc)
However… there will be ONE LAST CHANCE to see The Threetles in its original lineup, as James Brown will be back in Blighty during June of this year. So, we’re putting on a really special show to finish in style before he jets off again; we’ve hired the Bishopthorpe Social Club in York for Friday 16th June, where we’ll be putting on a show with a slight difference from the usual. As well as having one or two guest appearances on certain songs, we’re also going to mark the anniversary of 60 years since The Beatles’ first LP was released (Please Please Me) in 1963, so we will be performing songs from this iconic album in the first half, before returning to all the usual hits for the second half. The venue has limited capacity, so this show will sell out, but tickets are available now, so don’t miss out – click HERE to get yours now!
We really hope to see as many of you at the next few shows as possible, and we’d really love you to carry on the journey with us with One Iota (click here to join the newsletter) but for now (and who knows what the future holds) we’re going to call it a day for The Threetles.
